2 Teens Killed, 5 Injured in Indianapolis Mass Shooting, Police Say

An early Saturday morning shooting in downtown Indianapolis left two teenagers dead and several others injured, according to local authorities.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) said officers were dispatched around 1:27 a.m. to the area near Washington and Meridian Streets following reports of a disturbance. As they arrived on the scene, they heard multiple gunshots ring out.

Responding officers discovered a 16-year-old boy who had been fatally shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Five other individuals were transported to area hospitals with gunshot wounds. Police later confirmed that one of those victims, a 15-year-old boy, succumbed to his injuries.

Another victim reportedly sought treatment at a hospital independently.

Police identified the surviving victims as a 16-year-old, a 17-year-old, two individuals aged 19, and a 21-year-old. Their conditions have not been disclosed.

As of Saturday afternoon, no arrests had been made, and investigators have not determined a motive. The identities of the victims have not been publicly released.

Indianapolis Police Chief Chris Bailey voiced strong frustration over the deadly incident, saying the city continues to lose too many young lives to senseless violence.

“This should never happen. Too many lives are being lost,” Bailey said during a press conference.

Mayor Joe Hogsett echoed those sentiments, calling the tragedy heartbreaking and unnecessary. “This violence is both avoidable and preventable,” he said. “My heart goes out to the families who are now living a nightmare no parent should ever face.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
